Parboiled rice price in Nigeria: what drives your landed cost
Retail rice prices in Nigeria change week to week, so we do not publish a fixed price list. Your landed cost depends on these factors:
- Export price at origin. This depends on the Pakistani crop year, the grade and the broken percentage.
- Ocean freight and insurance from Karachi to your Nigerian port.
- Nigerian import duty and levies, which change from time to time. We check the current rates with you before we contract.
- The naira exchange rate on the day you open Form M and make payment.
- Clearing, port charges and inland haulage to your warehouse.
Foreign rice in Nigeria: types and where Pakistani rice fits
Nigerian demand for imported rice centres on long-grain parboiled rice, the standard choice for jollof and party cooking. Long-grain white rice and basmati serve smaller premium and catering segments. Broken rice goes to processors. Pakistani parboiled rice competes with Thai and Indian origins on grain length, cooking quality and price.
How we work with rice importers and distributors
1. Specification and samples
We agree the grade, moisture, broken percentage and packing, and send pre-shipment samples on request.
2. Documents for Nigerian import
We provide the documents your Form M and clearing agent need: proforma invoice, commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, phytosanitary and fumigation certificates, certificate of analysis and Halal certificate. We confirm NAFDAC and other product requirements with you before shipment.
3. Inspection
Independent inspection by SGS, Intertek or an equivalent agency at the load port in Karachi.
4. Payment terms
T/T advance with the balance against shipping documents, or an irrevocable L/C at sight from a prime bank.
Other products for the same container
Nigerian buyers can combine rice with other permitted lines in one shipment, such as baby diapers, table olives and pulses. We check every line against Nigeria's import prohibition list before we quote: pasta, noodles, sugar and refined vegetable oils cannot be imported into Nigeria. See the full product range.
